God’s Self-Revelation

On the basis of God’s self-revelation to man in the Bible, we learn about the attributes of God which define His being.  A number of the more important ones to have a proper understanding of Who God are: God is triune (Matt.28:19), eternal (Psalm 90:2, Rev. 1:8), omnipotent (Jeremiah 32:17, 27) omniscient (Isaiah 46:9,10) all-wise (Prov. 3:19, Job 12:13) sovereign of heaven and earth (Psalm 135:6, Eph. 1:11). These attributes of God reveal that He is the Supreme Ruler of the universe since all things were created by Him and for Him; moreover, ‘He is before all things, and by Him all things consist’ (Col. 1:16, 17)  The fact that God has also revealed Himself in the Bible as the triune God means that He consists of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  God the Father is most commonly referred to as mankind’s Creator and Sustainer, while God the Son is seen as man’s Saviour-Redeemer and God the Holy Spirit as humanity’s Re-newer and Sanctifier.  This means that all three persons of the Godhead are intimately involved in the salvation of man.
